LASER BEAM STEERING
 

Objectives:

  1. To develop high figure-of-merit LC mixtures for laser beam steering.

  2. To invent  polarization-independent LC phase modulators for laser beam steering.

  3. To develop new LC gel for high-speed optical phased array.

Accomplishments:

  1. Developed fast-response and scattering-free polymer network liquid crystals and LC gels for infrared light modulators.

  2. Demonstrated a fast-response light switch using a sheared polymer network liquid crystal.

  3. Invented an axially-symmetric sheared polymer network liquid crystal for simultaneously measuring the phase retardation and optic axis of uniaxial phase compensation films.
